Re: powder coat stripping

they have this great stuff at wal-mart called aircraft remover. use it. we use it in the military, it's fun. also used it to strip my friends eg. the acetone doesn't work that well that's why we used the aircraft remover.

Re: powder coat stripping

I'v never tried aircraft remover on it, but good powder coat is pretty much imprevious to all chemicals. About your ownly option is to sandblast, and even sand blasting takes a while to remove it. Might be easier off just picking up a junk yard or ebay valve cover and start over again.

Re: powder coat stripping

If you just want to start with another valve cover, I have one from a D16A6 or D15B2, I'm not sure. Anyway, like $10 + shipping.

Re: powder coat stripping

If it was powder coated and they scratched it, either A) it wasn't cured correctly b) it wasn't a screwdriver that hit it, something with some power behind it.

Aircraft remover might get it off with enough time and tries, but scratch it up with some rough paper, then put the aircraft remover on it, make sure you don't get any of it on you because that shit burns like a bitch. If your taking it to a professional place, most of them have burn off ovens and can do it that way, or sandblast it and it will still take a bit. If it wasn't for the scratches, if it is powder coated you wouldn't have to do anything to it, just give it to them so they can coat it. Powder coating can stick to powder, but not any form of wet paint. I used to paint at a powder coating place and done more of industrial parts, but that shit is tough if its cured correctly, which sometimes can be a bitch.

Re: powder coat stripping

ok so that aircraft remover is amazing turns out it was sjut paint on the valve cover but in a matter of mintues it was all bubbled up. however liek someoen said it burns lie ka bitch. and it also removed resin off my drive way. so im thinkin this is more then jsut paint stripper.

Re: powder coat stripping

Yea, I don't know what exactly that stuff is, but its amazing for removing paint, and burning skin. When I was in school for autobody we used it and it was actually quite funny how some of those guys danced around when they got it on them. I always wore like 3 pairs of gloves because it will eat through all 3 of them shortly.
