Removing rear drum brakes

'99, SE:

I read that I need to pop off the rubber plug and stick some "brake tools" to release a spring or something like this?

I just need to take a serious look at the drums, I took the wheels off, and thos back wheels are NOT rotating freely!

Thanks

Re: Removing rear drum brakes

Go to autozone.com and look at their free repair guide. You need to loosen the adjuster to get the drums off.

Re: Removing rear drum brakes

You did remember to release the parking brake, right? :P

There could be a rusty ridge around the outside perimeter of the drum would would make it quite difficult to get the drums over the brake shoes. Reversing the self adjuster as KimMF mentioned should work in this case as well.

Re: Removing rear drum brakes

If worse comes to worse and you can't get the drum to break free you can use a 37mm socket and remove the hub nut and pull the whole hub off.

You can then get inside it and pull the parts out.
