Fuel pump or new transmission

Okay so i got my transmission rebuilt by a certified transmission repair service and my Trans AM hasent been the same. I got a shift kit put in it and it lost its performance. My 87TA fuel pump is going bad but before the transmission went my car shifted to second gear at about 5.5k RPM and now it shifts at 2.8-3.0k RPM, it also doesent shift hard now which i want it to do, which is what the shift kit should cause it to do. I am not sure if its the fuel pump causing it to do that or the new transmission. And to make things worse i have to have the exhaust cut inorder to remove the fuel pump to put in a new one, becuase the exhaust is is welded . So guys what do you think is wrong, the transmission or the fuel pump?

and im pissed cuz this is the first time i have ever lost to a mustang!!!

Re: Fuel pump or new transmission

transmission. they probably installed the wrong transmission if they didnt overhaul your stock one, they could easily substitute a different 700R4. if they do that it will probably havfe diff shift points because of the governor, lots of cars from GM use the 700R4 and they may have put in a truck one...

eithier that or they didnt adjust everything right. take it back, make em fix it!

Yeah its been garage kept its whole life. then i blew the trans ( and i have no idea how) and my dad was pissed. That was the first thing to ever go wrong with it.

Re: Fuel pump or new transmission

Try adjusting the TV cable properly. That's what controls line pressure and governor override on your TH700-R4, and ultimately the shift points. .

Re: Fuel pump or new transmission

Oh, and make sure the fuel pump is actually the problem before you start cutting off anything. Old FPRs tend to lose it, too, so don't replace anything until you perform some diagnosis. If you think you're annoyed with a "bad rebuild" because the TV cable is not adjusted, you'll be really ticked if you drop the exhaust, axle, and tank to replace the pump, only to discover that it did no good.

Re: Fuel pump or new transmission

sounds pretty sweet. i wish i still had the 88 formula. probably a defective thing from the factory.. i blew my trans..twice, in the..5-6 months i had it... (good thing it was covered under the first rebuild warranty..)
