E36 5 SPEED no more 2nd gear

Well its been a while since I've visited the site. but I ran into a problem. I put alittle too much power to the wheels shifting to second gear and now I have no more second gear . It goes right in but dosnt grab. 1st 3rd 4th and 5th are fine. Is the car drivable like this. and also is it cheaper to replace the synchros or to just get a new gearbox. Also what else would I need if anything. My pops a mechanic, so I have the tools necessary, but because I was driving like a jerk as he says he isnt going to help me with it. Lesson learned.any help would be greatly appreciated.
