Folks, what's the best thinner for Tamiya TS sprays?

Would DIY grade lacqure thinner do?

And how does it fair as airbrush cleaner after spraying?

Re: Folks, what's the best thinner for Tamiya TS sprays?

Tamiya does make a laquer thinner specificly for use with their products. If you absolutely cannot get it, a high quality reducer like PPG DTL 105 might work- but I think Tamiya's formulation is pretty unique. Hardware store laquer thinner would certainly work for cleanup, but I wouldn't try using it to thin for spraying.

If you can't find Tamiya's own thinner, Gunze/Mr. Hobby Mr. Color Thinner easily thins TS paints for airbrushing. I haven't tried other lacquer thinners, some may work, others may not.

For sure Tamiya's Lacquer Thinner. I've used various types of thinners with TS paint and there is nothing close to it. Of the thinners that I tried.. Mr color thinner comes in second. NOTE: At the time of trial I didn't have access to automotive thinners.

Re: Folks, what's the best thinner for Tamiya TS sprays?

I've used Gunze Mr. Levelling Thinner with TS paints - no issues.

However, I wouldn't use it for cleaning the airbrush - much too expensive for that. Any old gunky cellulose(?) thinner should be fine for that.

I use the "cheap" (have you priced it lately?) lacquer thinner and get great results... - Mark
