Transmission Problem.

hey guys what would the problem be when a trans. doesn't downshift, it stays at 3 gear when i stop so ,basicly only 3 and 4 gears are working, any help? thanks. (97 windstar )

i'm not certain about windstar but other vehicles with auto transmissions do this when it gets locked into the overdrive mode.i've even heard on car talk shows about this and experienced it on a general motors vehicle i had.they recommended to just disconnect the electrical connection that activates it--which i did on an oldsmobile i had.that solved shifting problems although the overdrive is now gone--but you can live without overdrive.other forum members may have better advice regarding the windstar---my advice may be totally wrong for a ford.

Re: Transmission Problem.

I forgot to tell you that my O/D ligth was blinking , so what i did i unpluged the wire connector going into trans. after that it is working fine even the light won't blink any more ,thanks "bychance ford" for your help, now i'm just going to drive it for a while and see if problem don't return.
