Cord in colored pencil
Here's one of my classics. It's a Cord done with Prismacolor pencils on Stonehenge paper. I took the reference at a local classic car show. When I got the car and people finished I liked it the way it was so I didn't add a background. I thought it made the car stand out more.

Re: Cord in colored pencil
Wow. That is very very VERY photorealistic. I'm curious about how much time you have on this picture?
(Nice, unique subject choice by the way...)

Re: Cord in colored pencil
Thanks guys, To answer a couple of your questions, I have about 40 hours in a drawing like this. From making the initial sketches, transfering it to the drawing paper and then doing all of the coloration. As far as the tutorials, I have done a couple that were posted on the Wet Canvas site. Here is one that I did for the 55 Chevy.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258805 If you just want a lot of information on colored pencil drawing and how to use them here's the link to the whole colored pencil reference library. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=267524 If you have any other questions for me please feel free to ask anything. I know how frustrating it was when I was learning and had nobody to ask. gbritnell |

Re: Cord in colored pencil
Beautiful! I am a big fan of the Auburn, Cord, Duesenburgs since I'm from Indiana. We do the Kruse Auburn auction every Labor Day. We restore Model A Fords and usually take a couple every year to sell. This year we'll have a '32 Roadster there. Anyway, great work once again! B

Re: Cord in colored pencil
Great artwork.
Not added a background does make the car image seem to pop out to the viewer. Justing including the grass covered by the drop shadow is a very nice effect. Also, thanks for the links. |

Awesome work, George! You have lots of patience.
Thanks for posting the links to wetcanvas, that is a great source for color pencils. I will add it to our tutorials list.

Re: Cord in colored pencil
Beautiful
![]() I've probably asked you this before, but do you find it harder to work with red/orange/yellow hues as opposed to cool colors? Alex

Re: Cord in colored pencil
Thanks Alex, I don't have a problem with warms and cools per se but I do have a problem with certain colors. The light blues and greys don't seem to lay down a smooth as the other colors. I find that you have to use a different technique when using those colors to get them to blend well. As far as the other cools (dark blues and greens) and warms ( reds, oranges etc.) they seem to layer really well. The other thing I noticed is that some colors are very unforgiving. I mean that if you put a color down too early you can never get it to blend out so you have to put a light wash under it. I mainly find this in working with portraits and using a dark red or orange too early.
