ISS, Strut, Other Problem?

My Grand Prix has 57k miles.

1) When rotating the steering wheel to the right, generally past 90 degrees, I hear a popping/clunk sound coming from seeming the passenger side.

2) It also appears occasionally when moving back to stop from a greater 90 degree left turn, although not nearly as defined.

3) If 1 or 2 occurs during braking, I can sometimes feel an associative pop in the pedal.

4) I have felt similar to #3 in the accelerator, but very rare

5) Seems to be more prevalent in hot weather (i.e., greater than 75 degrees) than cooler weather.

6) Don't notice it at high speeds, but of course high speed turns that require > 90 degree steering movement don't occur very often.

I have read in searches the TSB on the ISS. However, with the feeling while braking I suspect it's due to something either chassis related or something else.

Please advise. Thanks a bunch again.

Question Re: ISS, Strut, Other Problem?

Any recent wheel bearing replacements done, or brake work?

No.

Did replace tires about 6k ago. But that shouldn't have harmed anything.

Retorque the axle nut to 185 lb/ft, check for loose caliper bracket bolts, motor mount/trans bracket bolts, lots of possibilities here. Wheel lug nuts also.

I don't know abut that torque figure Shep. If he has the OEM GM hubs then that could be high. The service manual specifies 151 ft-lbs. It may vary if you use an old or new axle nut.

BTW - I went with the 151 ft-lbs.

Bob, you are right that is an AM bearing torque setting, good catch.
