Spark Plug Wire Set

I am at the point of changing the spark plug wires. Any suggestions as to a brand without breaking the bank. Ebay has some MSD's for $49.95 plus $13.95 shipping. What do ya'll think? Good brand/price? Or, are there any decent brands at the major parts houses (i.e. Auto Zone, O'rielly's, Pep Boys, etc.).

Re: Spark Plug Wire Set

I'd stick to whatever is in there now if they have worked well this long. Reduce the chance for problems. So, prolly AC Delco would be my call.

If your looking cheaper, I think Autolite makes an ok set.

Re: Spark Plug Wire Set

Three bad sets of Autolites over the last ten years for me on chevys . MSD is an excellent choice by my opinion . NASCAR uses them I put them on my T/A two months ago . Same set just longer on the 5.3 . Great price you found . I paid $80 at a local speed shop . AC delco are more expensive but they do have the metal heat sheild built on them . But mine failed on my car at 35 k miles . Plan on putting them on my truck soon too. Rob

So, I am assuming that the heat shields are not removable? I have not pulled a wire off, so I am not sure how they are assembled.

Re: Spark Plug Wire Set

I put msd on my silverado 6 months ago and they work great. The metal heat shields on my stock wires were not connected to the wires so i just used them again on my new wires.

Re: Spark Plug Wire Set

I changed mine out to NGK or Bosch can't remember and I put TR55IX Plugs in and it smoothed it out a bit. I didn't really notice an increase in power but, it definately smoothed the idle a bit. They Look cool in Blue.

And yeah, I just cleaned the old heat shields and slid them on to the new cables. Anyone know of a way to test the old Cables. I kept them just in case. I never throw anything away; bit of a packrat in that way.

Re: Spark Plug Wire Set

Thats the Irridium plugs right ? I have a set of those in my T/A too . I did not think about moving the heat sheild . I guess I was fooled by the springs . Rob

Re: Spark Plug Wire Set

The Delco's are only $59.34 with shipping at gmpartsdirect.com. I'd splurge an extra $10 for what's already in there personally!

Dealer list looks to be over $100, lol.

I changed my plugs today . The AC Delco plugs I pulled out were stamped "japan" on the base . Rob

I am thinking about going with the NGK Iridiums too. I ended up buying Accel Extreme 9000 wires (Ebay $38.00) and they should be in next week. We'll see how that goes.
