Faulty AC switch?

anyone ever have a faulty AC switch?

I have 96 Tacoma and drove it about 9 hours one day with AC working fine the whole time. The next time I turned it on, the light came on, but there was no cold air and I realized the compressor was not running. According to the owner's manual, the AC light is supposed to flash if something in the AC system is bad, but it was not flashing.

Before I checked anything else I checked my Haynes manual and it says to check the AC switch for continuity, which I did and I only get continuity on terminals 1 and 3 of the switch, but nowhere else with switch on or switch off. Is it really that simple that it is just the switch?

Pitch that haynes manual in trash can and get some good info. Like factory service manual or all data DIY.

Look at the wiring diagram and make sure you are getting 12 volt power to right places.
Lot of computer and module controls on it and do not try to jump the 3 or 4 wire pressure switches.

First thing would to check check all fuses on it.
Does the fan blower work alright and the heater part work good?

Re: Faulty AC switch?

Did you look to see if the compressor is turning? It has a belt, it's may have broken. After checking the simple obvious things you are going to need an AC manifold gage set. If you don't have a gage set you will probably have to visit the dealer or a repair shop that does AC work.
