well i used to own a 92 maxima so i know a something about them. the 92-94 SE models have the ve30de engine which has a 190 hp engine with 190 pounds/ft of torque. The GXE versions have a 160 hp engine, dont know about torque. there were no gle versions until 1995. The automatic transmission is shitty of course, unless you get a valve body modification which can run you from $450-1000. So you be better off with a 5sp. All 3rd generations do have a v6. Major mods you can do to it inlude, cai or jtw pop charger(cone filter), exhuast, y-pipe, underdrive pullies(which will free up hp that are being stolen by the ac and accesories), and there are many cosmetic mods too. You cannot supercharge the 3rd generation due to the compression ratios, but it will benefit from a turbo( no companies out there make one so you will have to custom make, which will run you about 5000-7000 grand
) if you do purchase a 93, you will have much fun with it as i did with mine. Remember try to get a 5sp(they have much more potential and are better). hope this helps.

that's almost right but the 92-94 only have 176lbs of torque, and the 1994 is the first year to reach 190 hp all the rest are 160. the older maxima's are nice because of the obd1 emissions engine. modifications go further with less emission control devices.
and you can supercharge and 3rd generation maxima but you'll have to get low compression pistons first. a maxima with very basic modifications'll turd all over a lot of cars: civics, neons, 6 cylinder mustangs and camaro's and even a GT mustang will be a lot closer of a race than mr. mustang would like, if you don't beat him too, that is. if i were you i'd look for a 1995 5 spd Se but either way you'll get a fine car. good luck p.s my dad has a 1993 maxima that he bought in 1994 and i bought a 1995 because i liked his car so much. |

that's crazy, my friend had a 1992 5 sp se and i always beat him when we'd race. we always assumed it was the difference in hp. Do you know what the curb wight is on a 1992? on my registration card for my 95 maxima it says the weight is 2895 lbs with the seats.
and thnx for correcting me |

well im not completely sure about the weight, but i do know that the 3rd gens were smaller and hence must have been lighter. I can only remember that the SE's did 0-60 in 7.1secs(5spd) and somewhere around the low 16s for the 1/4 mile. I'll try to find out. Did you have mods when you raced your friend....or it might have been mechanical, cuz the fuel injectors are shitty in the 3rd generations. after 2 injectors busted on my 92, I sold it and got me my 98
oh and 93maxima4doors, the 92-94 SE's have 190 hp 89-94 gxe's have 160 hp, 95-99 gxe, se, and gle's have 190 hp ( the 95-96 are faster though cuz they are lighter) 00-01 gxe, se, gle have 222hp and the 02-03 have the new VQDE35 engine which produces 255hp. it is also rumored that the 04 will be a v8 rwd, producing 340 hp. it a rumor though. hope this helps.

now i have a cat-back stillen exhaust, weapon-r intake and one of them tornado fuel saver's.
when we raced it was just the intake I know for a fact my car does less than that for 0-60 now. |
