What to look for

I'm thinking about buying this 1997 Eclipse rs for sale for 900 bucks it has 190,000 mils on it and its a 5 spped. They said its been wrecked befor and the doors dont close that good you have to lift up on door tto close right. What should i look for known the car has been wrecked befor i buy it to make sure its good? Thanks Jovan

Re: What to look for

The car is not "good". It has 190,000 miles and it's been in an obvious wreck that wasn't fixed (or fixed correctly). Your only gonna be out $900 if it takes a complete shit, but it sounds like the car is on it's last leg. How do you expect a car like that to last?

..but then again, it's only an RS. I bet anyone who has ever owned (or at least most) a non-turbo DSM wishes that it was boosted. Performance is an addictive thing. Plus getting beaten by a Civic is not a nice thing lol.

I say buy the car if:
a) You don't care about performance, but still want to at least pick up girls
b) You think you can make a profit off of it
c) It's going to be your first car (first car you owned or first project car)
d) You're willing to deal with all the problems that it will have
e) You can get it for even cheaper and then sell it for higher without doing anything to it

Re: What to look for

geez. 'RS' '$900' and '190,000' miles should have made you turn away.

Yeah, because you obviously own an Eclipse and know anything about them.

Jovan, I say go for it. If you have to lift up on the door to get it to shut right, then that's more than likely a hinge problem, if it wasn't the hinge, you shouldn't be able to lift up on the door anyways. I own an RS and I love it. It's not so much good for racing, but its a sexy car, and if taken care of, they can go a long ways.

Re: What to look for

I do want a turbo'd one but o well, i had a 92 eagle talon and that got totaled. I had parts from a tsi because i was goin to switch it over from a fwd to awd so i brought all parts and everything soon as i got the complete system n everything i needed i took the rims off n took header n fenders off n went back stock besides my head lights and strobe lights n da head lights, put new tires on and new brakes all the way around come for inspection time and da next week damn car got totaled i let bro drive it to work n sum 65 year old man hit it head on. my insurance paid for it cus he didnt have no insurance so im still going through the settle with him they only gave me 2,000 for it. i wasnt pleased i just spent 2200 for a tranny and to have it put in when i could have done it myself but they gave me a hell of a warrenty on it so i went for it. insurance Didnt want to reinburst me for the tranny cus the insurance company claimed that it was nt new so they dont insure rebuilt trans im like where in the hell imma get a new one from a****... so yeah I have a 96 rs sittn in the drive way now after i brought it 3 weeks later water pumpbent(locked up),timing belt(split then broke), n 3rd valve bent. fixed it its running fin till alternator went on me yesterday. so have to replace that. i love dsm's so i mite go ahead and buy it what the hell
