Hey guys, I have a 1987 caprice wagon with a 305 in it. I am going to be derbying it THIS WEEKEND and I have just had this problem start a cuple days ago. I had the car sitting for a while and I started it up and drove it down to mi barn to get it ready for the derby. I let it sit for about 20 minutes and let it get warmed up. The needle was at the normal operating temperature. When I tried to start it again, It sounded like the battery was dead (turned over once slugish, then this light humming sound) So I took th e battery out and put it in my mini car (a sunbird) the thing fired upo right away with no hesitation. So what I was wondering is that it could be the starter is getting too hot. Like I said the derby is this weekend so if anyone can give me any suggestions it will help a lot. I know I am going to stall the thing at least once so I need a reliable engine lol. Thanks in advace!

Re: 87 Caprice not starting when hot
I had a similar problem, but mine was carb related.
Try checking the wires going to starter for any ones that may be broke or corroded through. |

Re: 87 Caprice not starting when hot
Now that you mension it, The reason I got the car cheap was becaude the carb as burning too lean. Maybe that might have something to do with it? I'm going to run new aires anyways so I have a push-button start on the thing. Thanks a lot.
