Always, turbo Question.
ok, so i decided that i want either a 50 or 60 trim turbo... my question is this, whats the difference on turbo lag? i'm getting a "stage 5 turbine" w/ manifold mount waste gate, ported inlet and outlit...now whats the difference between the regular 50/60 wheel and the super 50/60 wheel? i know with a 60 trim wheel, the lag is going to be longer, but another question is it worth it for the power? i'm hoping for a minimum of 400 WHP w/ 950cc FIC injectors, DSMlink w/ GM bar sensor + wideband o2, STREET car. which turbo would fit my needs best?

Re: Always, turbo Question.
Do you plan on doing internals? Either turbo will get you there, but the 60 trim will get you all the way into the 550-600 range

Re: Always, turbo Question.
SBR said their 50 trim made 450 and their 60 trim made a bit over 500. I dont know man, are you comfortable with buying used? I would go with whatever you can get cheapest. There should only be miniman lag difference, IIRC the 50 trim will boost by about 3800 and the 60 trim will get full boost by a hair past 4000. Either will get 400, its just how much you'd want past that. I would say 60 trim because it will be easier to get 400.

Re: Always, turbo Question.
from personal experience the 60trim is not a pump gas friendly turbo. It needs race gas and really high boost to reach its power potential. IMO the 50trim is the King of Pump gas for street turbos. Good spool, plenty of power, 93 octane friendly.

Re: Always, turbo Question.
yea like ricer said I think your jumping the gun a little bit, your engine won't last long under that kinda pressure. For 400 WHP your going to have to do some internals.

Re: Always, turbo Question.
Stock internals, even 7 bolts, will make 400 whp all day long if it's properly tuned. If the motor can't take it, it was a worthless pile of donkey biscuits and deserved to blow up anyway.
I don't have any personal experience with turbos in between the 50 trim and the 60-1. The scenario I always provide to illustrate the reason I didn't spend any time testing those turbos is Forced Performace's Green and Red. They used to offer the Frank 1-6 or so, using all of those TO4x wheels. They eventually dropped that whole line and offered on the Green and Red, 50 trim and 60-1. FP knows turbos, so I tend to follow what they are doing to some degree. That being said, the 60 trim may still make a good turbo, but I suspect Crunchy is right, and will aggre with him that the 50 trim is an awesome pump gas turbo. Dre did 500 whp with it with a larger hot side (alledgedly). I believe it is FP that sells the "Dre Spec" 50 trim. Lag would be slightly higher, but max power output would be higher, and it would take high boost on pump gas nore easily. Something to consider. I never looked into the "Super" 50 and 60 trim wheels, IIRC, they are T3 wheels and are pretty small, no?

Re: Always, turbo Question.
what are the prices and where can i purchase this turbo your talking about keven? can i get it from SBR? or somewhere special? any good hits for a used one? i need something on a mitsubishi Housing, because i already have my manifold, and its from DP, so i PAYED for it... thanks for the input guys. and i do NOT plan on doing internals, however, the car will only be driven twice a month, and if it does break, then a 6 bolt stroker will take its place.
YEAH!

Re: Always, turbo Question.
FP makes good shit, but they are wayyyyy to expesive IMO. You can get an SBR 50 trim for $700 or a green for $1300. If you were a hard core racer it would probably be different, but shit. You could get link AND a 50 trim for the price of the green. Just my opinion though.

Re: Always, turbo Question.
this is the turbo you want
http://linux.forcedperformance.net/m...Code=DSM-Turbo been working on a car with this turbo and I'm VERY impressed with how it performs. I will be upgrading to this eventually. I don't think it will hit 500hp without really high boost, but at 500hp, your motor will break, not a question of it, but when, so this is a great turbo compromise.

Re: Always, turbo Question.
The FP green is just a 50 trim wheel with a TDO6H turbine. It does seem over priced. But, it's hard to go wrong with FP. I Don't see the Dre version on thier site, not sure if it was FP that made it now.
