Re: grand prix performance

I don't have drag times, but I beat a 97-98 Mustang GT by a fender with my bone stock 99 GT 4-door up to about 70mph. I had 5 people in the car and the Mustang driver was alone.

Drag racing on the street with 5 people on board Rich. Naughty!

Hopefully none of those idiots we used to get from the Mustang forum see your reply. Those year and model Mustang GTs are faster than a GP GT from start to finish. Are you sure it wasn't one of those V6 Mustangs?

The best I've ever heard a stock GT run is around a 15.8 in the 1/4. Low 16s is the norm.

For a L36, intake and exhaust. CAI/FWI intake. U-bend delete with a hi-flow CAT for exhaust. Re-programmed PCM from ZZP or DHP but you'll have to use premium gas. That is where most start and go from there.

Re: grand prix performance

Nope, it was a GT Bob, had the rear facia with "Mustang GT" molded into it. I disagree with performance on those Mustangs. I could stay tire to tire with my uncles 97 with the 91 Cavalier convertible I used to have. BTW, the "race" was up a two lane highway on-ramp, so no cross traffic or pedestrians to worry about, and I never even exceeded the speed limit (that's why I let him go at 70).

We're all entitled to our subjective beliefs and you can disagree all you want. I'm well aware of what most Mustangs are capable of including the '94 - '98 model years from my experiences at the track.

Back to the subject at hand all he wanted to know what the GT did at the track. So how does your GT do the the strip? BTW - We have a "street racer" forum on AF if you want to share experiences such as yours.

Re: grand prix performance

Easy Bob, I'm not saying I can beat all Mustangs, I was actually shocked that I beat him. I was at least trying to give him a response as to what performance he might expect as no one else had chimed in. The guy I ran may have had a turd/mistuned/neglected POS for all we know. Stock Mustangs don't impress me from those years (at least the ones I've seen) but with just a little tuning/modding, they can be made to run.

I hope not. We wouldn't want all stock GT owners to go out and believe they can take on any '94 - '98 Mustang GT based on your one experience. The Mustang GTs from that era do a lot better than claimed. Hard to argue with 290 ft-lbs of torque stock. They are up there in GTP territory.

BTW - The Cobra version is no pushover and will decisively beat a stock GTP or even one with some mods.

Re: grand prix performance

I agree Bob. The Cobra's are quick, and sound good too. Ford's SVO did a nice job on those.
