Funky Noise When at Idle

Hey Guys and Gals, I just had a little question, on the way home from work tonight my car was being a bitch. It would take a lot of gas to get it up to like 30 miles an hour, but the rpm's would hit like 3k at 20 miles an hour in 2nd. So I made it home and parked, and it's making this damn putting noise. Put put put put put, except when I put some gas on and rev it high then it sounds normal. Called my pops he says it sounds like a spark plug or spark plug wire and it's misfiring causing it to idle weird. Anyone have any clues???

Yea, pull your plugs and look at them. Check your distributor cap while you are at it. It could also be something in your fuel system, check your fuel filter. Im not much of a mechanic but sometimes it is something simple.
