2000 Grand Caravan spark plugs

Ok my girlfriend volunteered me to change the spark plugs in her friends Grand Caravan and was wondering if anyone could give me any tips on how to make this as easy as possible. I am not familiar with dodge engines and couldnt even tell you what size the engine is in her caravan, i havent seen it yet so i dont really know what i am getting into. Also is it possible to remove the upper motor mount and rock the engine forward to make access easier to the back plugs??? any advice will be great!! Thanks

Welcome on your first post on AF.
You did not say what engine but.
You had better take a look at it first.
Dodge engines do not rock good.
Some from under side and some over top or threw side and some of the.
Real hard ones you have to pull the wiper motor cowl assembley off.
Good luck

Re: 2000 Grand Caravan spark plugs

I can tell you what worked for me on a 96GC with the 3.8ltr engine. The three on the front are in the open and easily accessed. I gained access to the rear passenger side plug by rotating the alternator forward. I got to the middle and driver's side rear from underneath. When underneath you'll see a "channel" where the exhaust runs through. You can reach through that channel and reach each plug. It's doable but, not easy. Didn't use any special tools. Just a 3/8 inch drive ratchet, a 3 inch extension, and a spark plug socket.

On my first attempt I removed the wiper mechanism tray. I quickly learned all I did was waste an hour and a half. It didn't help me at all. I've read some find it necessary to remove the fuel rail and/or the intake manifold. Seems drastic but then I wasn't there.

I would think a 2000 would be very simular to a 96 depending on the engine. As MT said you'll have to look it over closely. Hope some of this applies.

Re: 2000 Grand Caravan spark plugs

I have a 2000 Grand Caravan, with the 3.3. After wimpily changing only the four plugs that were "easy" to reach, about six months ago I finally did the deed right. With Haynes manual in hand, and alot of lookin' and anglin', I unmounted the alternator, and removed the alternator mount bracket to get the RH aft plug out. Removed the black plastic intake pipes, the one small engine brace next to them, and removed the throttle cable assy from where it hooks to the throttle body (quite easy on and off). That was to reach the middle aft plug. The other four are pretty easy to get to.

ciao
