01 Gtp vs. newer GTP

i have an 01 GTP with a smaller s/c pulley(boosts @12 psi at WOT), roller rockers, headers, and cold air intake, and a power programmer. the other gtp i raced was one of the newrer ones with the series III motor, not sure of mods.

I was cruising home form my girlfirends house at about 12 am and i had my cruise set at 70 when i come up to a car with the license plates that said "SMITGTP", so i figured i would try to mess with him so i pulled up beside him and i pace him for awhile wating for him to hit it but he doesnt, so then i jump on it and back off about 3 times but he seems like he doesnt care. i give up and set my cruise back at 70, about a minute later he flies by me doing 100 plus, so i turn my HUD on so i can monitor my speed after 110, and i give chase. 70...80...90... by 90 he still pulling, finally about 120ish i satrt catching and i finally pass him at 135. aftre i pass him i let off and let him go on by.

this was my first kill since buying the car, and i was very impressed at the way it pulled at the higher speeds.

Nice kill. My friend's brother had a gtp, that was a pretty quick car.

Good kill, and welcome to the forums. Do you have any pics of your ride?

Keep the kills coming, while being careful.

Re: 01 Gtp vs. newer GTP

GTP is one of my domestic choice of cars I'm looking at. I'd want the same mods you have. The whole speedo needle going up to 110 is kind of a drag, but I know you have that HUD digital read out to monitor it beyond...

Re: 01 Gtp vs. newer GTP

that is the great thing about '04s, the speedo goes up to 140 and our governor is set at 128mph(compared to 107)... yet when you get a reprogrammed PCM, the governor doesn't mean crap...

bone stock, a new gtp -vs- an old gtp is a drivers race, when I was stock I beat my friend in his '99 a few times and he beat me a few times, it came down to who hooked up the best on that given day..

also a gen V m90('04+ GTP) with a 3.5" pulley, 3" downpipe, etc. is pretty much equivalent to a '97-'03 GTP running a 3.4" pulley and supporting mods... Honestly, a Gen V M90 with a 3.5" pulley will usually see more boost than the Gen III on the smaller 3.4" pulley, the gen V blower is just more efficient, even against a ported GEN III... Now that ported Gen V are becoming more and more popular, things will get really interesting... We can make power easier than the previous gen, we just are carrying an extra 200lbs... but once again, equivalent mods in each cars, its going to be a driver's race...

you'd be happier with a cobalt ss or saturn ion redline, they cost less and you have more performance and more room to grow

also 2 GTP's lining up next to each other is not a drivers race, especially since they only come auto

Re: 01 Gtp vs. newer GTP

uhh, that makes it MORE of a driver's, you have basically IDENTICAL cars with an automatic transmission, it simply comes down to the launch... Also I would NOT be happy in a RL or S/c SS, in fact I test drove both and the compact thing just wouldn't work, besides, no one expects a grand prix to be fast, the look on people's face when they get pulled by a 4 door family car makes it worth it...

Or the look on a GTP driver's face when he gets pulled on by a 4-banger...just as priceless.

not really, you beat a 4 door family car, that is something to brag about...

and more often than not, the 4 banger is getting walked...
