Exclamation URGENT: Accelerator Pedal sticking

I have a 94 Altima 2.4L Automatic. The accelerator pedeal has now stuck on me twice. First time it stuck in the closed position & wouldn't accelerate & I had to stomp on it as hard as I could in order to get it to unstick, this occured on a parking lot. Now this morning, 2 days after the first time of sticking, while on the highway coming home from work, it stuck again, except this time in the open position & it kept accelerating. I did not have the pedal all the way down either, it was only pushed in about half way. Finally after a couple minutes of holding the brake pedal in as far as it would go down (using both feet), did the accelerator pedal finally release. This here time when it stuck, I tried to pry the pedal up by putting my foot under it & pushing up on it, but it would not release. Other than it sticking both times, the pedal always move freely like it should & release like it should. PLEASE HELP as I need to take care of it.

Re: URGENT: Accelerator Pedal sticking

I had the same problem only my pedal wasn't stuck, it was the actual line near the throttle body. Make sure the line (under the hood) is not loose or too tight. It has to be just right, so check that and see how that is looking.

Thanks for the reply, I'll have to check it out, however I wouldn't think the line under the hood is the problem, since its actually the pedal itself sticking.

Re: URGENT: Accelerator Pedal sticking

A quick question, do you have aftermarket pedals in your car? If you do they might be sticking to the carpet. If not the block that is supposed to stop the accelerator pedal from touching the carpet might be broken and and a piece might be catching the pedal.
Good Luck

No I have nothing more than the stock pedeals & no aftermarket pedel covers either. I'll have to check & see about the block your talking about.

Re: URGENT: Accelerator Pedal sticking

Well I had to take the car to the shop for some other work to be done that I couldn't do myself, so I decided to go ahead & have them check out the accelerator problem & it turned out the accelerator line was actually getting stuck on the throttle body. They went on & took care of it for me for free so I'm happy.
