God damn it...

Man alive. Yesterday i locked my keys in the car and i had work in 1 hour. I was at wal mart and i was calling AMA but i was on hold. Tow truck dude says hjey need a hand? I says yeah i locked my keys in the car do u have a jimmy? He says no but it shudnt be a problem. Soo he sees a little opening in the back left window so he gets his fingers in there and reams down on it, well the window came down enough to get ur arm thru the door and unlock the door... Problem is, my window wudnt go up higher than halfway anymore.. I was like oh great, he prolly fugged my window regulator up. So i jimmy it around for a bit rolling it up and down cuz it was raining of course i wanted it up. Stopped half way, gave it a bit more jam and CRASH!!!! the window shatters and glass is all over me and the car.. So i bring it to a buddy at a glass shop, he wrips the door apart and shows me the reg, it is bent to SH!* hes like WTF happened?? So he gave me a new window for free but i need to get myself a new reg..

So right now im crusing around with a block of wood holding my window up inside the door with some black tape around the edges... No door panel either or window crank, it looks dead sexy... Anyone know where i can get a new reg for cheap? I went to the junkyard but u need to drill out the ...?pressed in bolts?.. to get at the reg so i figure its too much hassle, cuz then u have to punch the glass off the reg and get er out. So yeah none the less this pisses me off, i wish i remember the name of the towing company.... So if anyone knows the best way plz fill me in. Thanks...

Re: God damn it...

They're not "pressed in bolts," they're rivets. Not hard at all to drill out or otherwise pop out. A lot easier then they look, thats for sure.

Re: God damn it...

was he IN a tow truck?? you'd think every tow truck in the world has a jimmy stored in it... regardless, anyone who works with cars for a living (like a tow truck driver) should know better then to just push down a window, that guy truly was a dumbfuck

Yeah i go to that junkyard every so often so im keeping my eye out.

Thats the word i was looking for, rivets. So are they hard to get out? And then what? Dont u have to drill out the glass off the regulator? It would be excellent if i cud just pick one up from there instead of paying a good bill.

Worst case, does anyone know a cheap site to get one from? Thnx

your talking about a new window regulator correct??? found this one for $87.00 dont know expensive they are suppose to be http://oem.overnightautoparts.com/pa...gory=O&dp=true

EDIT: as far as the rivets in the door go, I'm pretty sure the only way to get those suckers out is to drill them out. after there drilled out not too sure what to do when putting it all back together. and as far as getting the glass of the regulator, you got me there too. never delt with them so I'm really no help lol

K thanks dude, ill see what happens. The glass shop gave me the glass for free which is good, but their holding my door panel and crank collateral cuz i said id find a reg. and bring it here so u can install it.. I may just buy a new one, even tho its a bitch cuz i was trying to put as little money into this as possible so i cud save up for a new nice cav.

Re: God damn it...

Fig. 2: Rear door window assembly

Fig. 3: The door window-to-regulator attaching nut and sash

This procedure applies to both the front and rear windows.
  1. Lower door window to the full DOWN position.
  2. Remove the door trim panel and water deflector.
  3. Remove the glass-to-regulator attaching bolts.
  4. Using care, raise the rear of the window then the front of the window assembly and remove the window from just inboard of the upper frame.
