'93 Taurus door locks won't open
'93 Taurus auto door lock button will lock all doors but won't open them; when the unlock is pushed, the dash lights come on; when released, dash lights go off. Keyless entry doesn't work. No interior lights, engine compartment light or trunk compartment light. Only way to open front doors from inside is to pull up on lock stem. A similar thing occurred on a '86 Dodge van except when driver pushed button to open passenger window, radio would cut out. That problem was shorted wires between driver door and door jamb. Could this be the problem here, or has anyone run into a different cause? Please pass along any info you might have encountered in a similar situation.

Re: '93 Taurus door locks won't open
There have been several issues caused by broken/corroded wires in the junction in the driver's door jamb. Your '94 has the cylindrical connector near the driver's door hinges, right?
The curious thing is both wires are needed for the locks to lock as well. Which dash lights come on when you attempt to unlock the doors? Just the illumination that would come on with the parking and headlights? -Rod |

Re: '93 Taurus door locks won't open
The lights that come on when I press the unlock switch are all the lights that come on when the parking lights switch is turned on.

Re: '93 Taurus door locks won't open
when you say the keyless entry doesnt work, does the alarm, lock, unlock, or if it has it the trunk release, or all of em not work. and when you press the buttons, does anything else happen, like do the lights come on like when you press the unlock button on the inside. You might have a short in your keyless entry system.

Re: '93 Taurus door locks won't open
The keyless entry does not work: using the remote pad on the key ring, no response when the "panic" buttion is depressed, nor when the "lock" or "unlock" buttons are depresed, nor when the "trunk" button is depressed. That system does not repsond at all. No response when the "lock" buttons in the car are depressed; BUT when the "unlock" buttons in the car are depressed, all the lights inside and outside of the vehicle that illuminate when the headlight switch is selected to the "parking light" position come on. In addition, the interior dome light, radio, light in the engine compartment and the light in the trunk compartment do not illuminate at all.

Re: '93 Taurus door locks won't open
Whew, that is an interesting one! I'll try to find some time to study the wiring diagrams and see if I can find any common circuit between all of those items. In the next generation Taurus ('96-'99) I'd suspect the GEM module, but I don't think they used that in the '93. I believe in '93 all those features were routed through the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module. You might have an issue with the RAP.

Re: '93 Taurus door locks won't open
Went to the local library and found the electrical wire diagram for a '92 Taurus/Sable; figured there couldn't/wouldn't be that much difference between a '92 and '93; decided to check every fuse on the fuse panel and found the blue 15 amp radio fuse (code 8A) burnt (open). Replaced the fuse and everything works like before, normal operation, except the dash and parking lights still flash when the fuse is removed and the "unlock" side of the door lock switch is depressed, but not when the good fused is installed. So there is still a short in the system, somewhere.
