ABS Light Always on / Brake Problems

Hey all you Cutlass Supremer's out there. I have a big problem. I just installed brand new disc brakes on all four tires, and new rotors. I went away up north come back, and the ABS light is on. ANd it's always on, it's been on for the last 2 weeks. Now... Something happened on my drivers front side the other day, where something happened to the caliper and the disc, where it grinded my disc down to the metal, and the rotor is completely shot. I was experiencing a loud grinding noise while braking at low and higher speeds. So obviously something was wrong. So I replaced the disc brakes on the driver front side including the rotor. And now today the SAME damn thing is happening to the passenger front side.

What the hell!?

Re: ABS Light Always on / Brake Problems

These are to be replaced in pairs only !

Ok I see you replaced all of them, then the drivers side had something going wrong....

When you say it grinded the rotors down to the metal.... they are all metal.
Did you mean the brake pad wore to the metal ?

Either the slide pins were not greased properly and or the clips are bad not letting the brakes retract after braking.

You should probly replace the pins and other little parts(clips) on the calipers. Auto stores sell these parts in a kit for about $12-15. Dont forget the brake grease for those pins

Also make sure the pads are installed correctly, sometimes you get them turned around and they'll wear real fast, but usually its like 1kmiles or so before all that happens.

Re: ABS Light Always on / Brake Problems

Yea, that's what I mean, the brake pads wore down to the metal.
I replaced everything in pairs.

I'll have to take a closer look then.

But that still doesn't explain why the ABS light is on?

Re: ABS Light Always on / Brake Problems

the lights on because at some point the brake pedal probly bottomed out, did it after replacing the brakes?

If the pedal is spongy you'll probly need to bleed the brakes really good.
Other than that, get it scanned with a ABS capable scanner.

The pads should fit into the calipers so they snug and stable so they dont wobble.

Sometimes the wear indicator goes on the outside,
sometimes the inside,
if they are turned around chances are that's what wore then so fast.

I'm not exactly sure(without looking) which yours is,
but they will not set properly in the calipers if they are wrong.

Hope that helps clarify
