Unhappy Please Help Me!!!!!! Thank You!!!

ok here is the deal i have a 1995 buick riviera supercharged with 75000 miles on it one owner before me (older man). the man was very religeous about oil changes and always kept up with that stuff, but he never gave it a tune up so i gave it one today to try to fix the problem. so i bought this car yesterday and here is the deal:

-hesitates ALOT
-slow acceleration
-when reved in neutral to about four thousand it backfires when it gets down around two thousand
-sputters ALOT
-very weak
O YEAH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON AND YES IT WORKS

Re: Please Help Me!!!!!! Thank You!!!

so by tune up i asume you mean you changed the wires, plugs, air filter, oil/filter, and there are no stand-out problems under the hood??? you could try replacing the fuel filter but it sounds like its more than just that. could be a problem with your MAF sensor. (mine went 1/2 out but no code was set)
the old man didnt say why it did this?? if there are no other posts here you may want to ask this Q on regalgs.org under the Riviera section, its a much more active forum and the FAQ can help you alot.

Re: Please Help Me!!!!!! Thank You!!!

yes i changed the air filter oil filter spark plugs and wires. i have been driving it a while today and now it is sounding worse!!! it is kinda clanking but just like every couple seconds it is just little clanks though. like you said there is no code being thrown, if it was something really serious wouldnt it throw a code. what could it be????? lol. it runs better at higher rpm's. i dont remember if i already said but it almost sounds like it is firing wrong like the timing is wrong. i have no clue what is wrong.
thank you so much for your help

Re: Please Help Me!!!!!! Thank You!!!

is the traction light on??? could be CPS. there are active and pending codes, active codes are what triggers the check engine light and pending codes will be in the computer but only accessable from a scan tool. you could go to a local auto zone and scan it to see if there is a code but not an active one.

Re: Please Help Me!!!!!! Thank You!!!

it keeps making a backfire sound (clack) and i think it is doing it more everyday but i could be just worying myself. could it have something to do with the timing please say no lol

o yeah another thing i noticed today is just driving from my house to the gas station two blocks away it gets up to temperature quick but it dont over heat, the motor stays super hot for almost 2 hours could the exhaust leak under the hood be giving those systoms i have been describing

Re: Please Help Me!!!!!! Thank You!!!

well it was doing it from the beginning so i gave it a tune up hoping that would fix it but it did not do anything. so this clacking sound that i have been describing it only does it when it is in park or neutral and when it does it the car goes forward or backward a little bit like the trans is catching and the trans fluid is dirty do you think that it could be the torque convertor or something else in the trans

thank you

It could be the trans drive chain. When you rev it up, it tightens the chain & when you let off the slack comes back and the chain tries to jump up on the sprocket. Take it to a trans shop that you know & trust for evaluation. It is for sure in the tranny!
