Why Import Cars?

I just really don't understand why most of the modified cars that I see around are imported cars such as Toyota, Honda, Acura, and Mitsubishi. I rarely see a Cavalier being modified?

Re: Why Import Cars?

Hmm wellll, the import people have alot more slow cars than us that need modifying. With the occasional evo, supra, and skyline but then they dont need it cuz they are already fast.

Re: Why Import Cars?

Ooooo, well, they say that imports are supposed to last longer than domestics, but thats only becuz they are made for bad drivers, considering where they come from. But actually there isnt really a big market for domestic tuning, atleast, not as big as the import.

Re: Why Import Cars?

I really think one of the reasons the ''import car'' seen has gotten to be so big is that there is sooo many different aftermarket stuff on the market for them. you can take a stock civic and replace just about every single piece on the car with something aftermarket. also liked mentioned before by roboto, imports are ''suppose'' to last longer than a domestic. I beg to differ though and that statement. it doesnt matter if you have a domestic or import, how long it lasts depends on how well you take care of the car. so that was just my opinon on the subject.

Re: Why Import Cars?

the market is better like he said for import cars, many more aftermarket parts are made for imports rather then domestics. honda only sells because of VTEC

Re: Why Import Cars?

My mom's side of family has been a loyal GM'er for some time, since my parents are split and i live with my mom this is what I am... how ever my next car is going to be a foregin car. It sad but true, but I already know what its going to be. I want a car whereas I can spent 1000-1800 on a quality suspension and the same for wheels and tires and make one of those look godly. Body kits and all this exterrior styling was a pain in my ass and for the birds. My dad has been an Audi Owner since 98, and he is on his 3rd one 2006 A4 2.0T.. I have fallen for the styling of these cars and the performance they have, along with the strong aftermarket community.

00-02 Audi S4, however i would be happy with an A4 quattro 1.8T, or a new RS4.

My dad's car..

Imports DO last longer because they are built by smarter people who take a lot more time in thinking what would be the best safest piece to use for every aspect of the car. If u look at their engines their designed really efficiently.

My girlfriend drives a 1987 toyota tercel wagon that has been abused since day one by her dad, late on oil changes, bagging up and down gravel roads. It has 360,000 km's on it and it still runs great, still good power, transmission is fine, i cant believe it! Lots of it is opinion but im for imports because they are built better and have more potential..

Re: Why Import Cars?

This probably gives kudos also..

J.D. Power and Associates Reports: Toyota Captures 11 of 19 Initial Quality Awards.

Recent article, toyota got 8 overall quality awards alone, 2nd place tie was GM and Honda with 4 awards, Ford with 2 and Mazda with 1. So toyota has GM and Ford beat put together in overall quality.. And Honda ties for 2nd place.. Mazda being Ford owned now is no big surprise they came out with 1.

Re: Why Import Cars?

Cheap, reliable, and a strong aftermarket following.

Very simple.

Re: Why Import Cars?

Yup. Most people just like domestic cars cuz they like to support their own countries products, or their old school muscle fans, but IMO jap cars are superior.

Re: Why Import Cars?

When you think about it, these is no such thing as imports anymore; most domestic cars are being built using foreign technology/materials and many foreign auto-manufacturers are partnered with/partially-owned by domestic companies.

P.S.

How come whenever people are talking about imports the majority of them are refering to only Japanese cars? Let's not forget that all those exotic Italian and German automobiles are also considered "imports".

P.P.S.
