Celica progress

well I said I would start posting project status on here, and here it is, over the last few months have been nothing but tearing down of my car. I mainly use to drive this car in michigan, and those of you who know what michigan winters are like know that, well basically this car is under some major need of restoration all around. Most people would say why not just get another car. Yeah this car is going to take a lot of work, but I believe in the end the results will be pretty awesome.
I am currently rebuilding a 1992 toyota celica 5sfe. Now do to the cost of building up the 5sfe versus the cost of the 3sgte, I can't build it up quite like I want it, seeing how you can get forged internals complete with rods and pistons for $750, and for that same kit for the 5sfe your looking at about $1700, so we won't be going with Forged internals. here are a list of my add ons that will be apart of this project some of them may vary. you might also ask why I have a wastegate on this turbo when this turbo is already internally gated, well I bought the turbo not really thinking, and bought the external Gate seperate, so i will either search for a internal wastegate or just tac weld the internal gate shut and run an external off my exaust manifold. Haven't really Decided yet. I came to the conclusion of this setup based on the most performance I can get for the right amount of money. I have attempted to list a bunch of pics below on the progress not sure if they will turn out or not. But heres hopin I will post more as the car progresses.

~Venom 550CC performance Injectors
~Walbro Fuel Pump
~CT26 twin entry Turbo running at 8 psi
~XS Performance chrome exaust manifold
~XS Performance Chrome Down Pipe
~Apexi AVCR Turbo Boost controller
~Apexi Safc II Fuel controller
~SSQV blow off Valve
~Greddy Front Mount Intercooler 2.5" inlet 2.5" outlet
~polished aluminum intercooler piping
~2mm steel head gasket
~F1 Stage III clutch kit
~standard Port and polish Head job

Re: Celica progress

Tonight was a good night I got the entire bay painted Ironic enough I painted it Ford Blue, lol I hate Ford. No offense to you ford Lovers. yeah i will most definatly have some numbers for you guys, i'm not 100% positive on any numbers yet, I'm not going to promise 300 or 400 horse power, I've simply put together what I feel from my research is a good and reliable set up for this engine, but once I get it tuned I will most definately have it dynoed, and I will definately post my results. i will also post pics as I go along, I hope to have the engine up and running in around 2 months.

P.S. blakscorpion21 thanks for the posting pics info i'll try to get those up asap

Re: Celica progress

Alright well here are the pics I think I finally figured out how to get these on here, now just so you know I didn't actually forget to put the pistons and the crank back in the engine lol. I simply wanted to see what the block and teh head and the valve cover looked like all put together with the chrome manifold and the turbo on, its not actually bolted all together so when you see the pistons next to the block with the crank behind it, don't freak out I didn't forget anything lol. But here is what I have up til tonight, I still have a long ways to go but its starting to progress nicely.

Re: Celica progress

Well sorry I haven't posted any new pics, to be honest the stuff I have been doing isn't really all that interesting I am still waiting for all my bearings to show up. But to give you all an update, since I repainted the bay absolutely everything came out, and parts that were re-used had to be degreased, stripped and repainted. I redid all the lines on the power steering Rack as well as re-installed the breaklines, with everything repainted it looks great. I have finally come to the final decision one exactly what this whole set up will entale, all of my previous engine mods are going to stand true as well as the port and polish Head job, thats going to take me some time I really hope all the time on that head is worth the extra power I'm going to get we'll see what the numbers show. what I am adding is getting rid of the old body kit that fit like crap and going with the vader 2 body kit, and with my electronics back ground I will build the megasquirt stand alone management system, or I might just attempt to tap into the stock ECU, a 7inch touch LCD for accessing the ECU through the computer and last but not least complete carbon fiber interior. Just so you all know I don't make a ton of money I do alright but for those of you running the numbers in your head its gonna cost some money. But my dream is to one day do nothing but toyota performance, and so after this project is all done and I get Dyno results, I will have to sell the car. But of course not before I get a chance to have just a little bit of fun with it. Also it will take me a little more then 7 months to complete this project. So if your interested in the progress of the car, I'm just going to keep posting on this thread. Anyways its 3 A.M. and I've got to call it a night hopefully the bottom end of the motor will be finished by friday I will definatly have some pics of that once its finished for your guys.

Re: Celica progress

Well Tonight went well up untill I went to take the caps off the rods, so that I could connect them to the Crank, and couldn't get the nuts off without the possibilities of stripping them so I have to make a trip back to where i had them reconditioned tomorrow and have them loosten em up for me. However the Crank did go in very smoothly tonight. it spins with hardly any effort, its hard to believe that, that much weight can turn that easily.
I wouldn't say I have a huge budget. I simply have an amazing woman who doesn't understand this obsession but puts up with it and yes all this costs a descent amount thats why its going to take me nearly 9 months, not because I'm slow but because thats how longs its going to take to get all the parts. I am just to determined and too involved with this project with already to much time to just give it up. and I'd like to be able to submit some useful info on here with actual numbers for proof. I'm up for any body design ideas, its a ways away but anyone who has any suggestions on the colors of the car with graphics and all please feel free to submit ideas. Thanks

Re: Celica progress

well here are pics of tonight, I got the caps off the pistons, and installed them, they went in very smooth.

{Lubing the main bearings before I drop the crank in}

{coating the cylinder walls with some clean oil}

{Pistons ever so lightly tapped in}

Re: Celica progress

About how much is all this going to cost you in the end? Just a ball park figure unless you've already tallied everything up.
