2002 Trooper -- Back Door Rattle

As I drove with the radio off...I heard something I had not heard before...a very light rattling sound.

I could not pinpoint it at first...souded like something in the backseat/cargo area was making the noise.

Had my buddy ride in the back to see if he could determine where the noise was coming from.

Turned out it was the back doors. I guess the hinges/latches are a little too loose.

Just curious if anyone else has run into this issue? If so, what did you do?

Many thanks!

I don't know how they latch but sometimes a wrap or 2 of electrical tape on the latch hoop will help.

Sometimes the fasteners that hold the locking devices to the sheet metal can loosen up. Check them for tightness and adjustment and snug them accordingly while you are looking at them.

Re: 2002 Trooper -- Back Door Rattle

If you are talking about the rear ambulance door, I had a similar probelm on my 1994 Trooper. There is a small plastic wedge thingy (I can't recall exactly what it is called) mounted under the back door. There is a strike plate that the wedge rides on as the door is closed. When this plastic thing wears it allows the door to sag a few millimeters and rattle. Your dealer should have this part available. Mine had absolutely no idea what I was talking about, but we found it in the book.

mmm, good info. on my 1992 trooper, which has similar 'wedge', i've had success by lubing it good. . .AND lubing that little spring with a teflon lube, that's the thing that finally got it 'fixed' for me...but it comes back, and back and back .

sounds like replacement might be worth it,'cause my radio's not working all that great right now either.

btw bluezoozoo replacing that wedge solved it, right?
