1990 525i hesitation slight rough idle and check engine

i have a 1990 bmw 525i e34
when i go to take off from a start it has a hesistation also if i go to rev it in park it will hesitate for a second. also the check engine light comes on indicating lambda control 1.

has new plugs and wires.
fuel system is good and clean.
tested and changed everything i could even if it was not bad and i have not found an airleak.

could it be distributer cap and rotor
or a head gasket or timing.

the guy who owned the car before me took great care of it and then it sat for 6 months before i baught it.

also is the ticking i hear with the engine running just the injectors or should i be worried.

Thanks guys

jason

Ticking sound is probably valves. Thats normal.

Have you changed the air mass meter? It's expensive and probably has not been changed before you got it.

What all have you checked/changed?

Throttle Position switch comes to mind also.

Regards

Bill

both of those have been replaced when i baught it trying to fix the rough idle they smoothed it out along with the air intake hose. but im still having the problem with the code lambda control 1 could distributer cap and rotor do that? im about to replace them at the end of the week because the previous owner never replaced them either.

I would definitely replace the rotor and distributor if they are several years old.

Has the idle air control valve been replaced?

I am not a "pro" mechanic, and do not have access to a code reader, so I am not sure about a lambda control 1 code.

You might try searching this forum for that code, I seem to remember reading something about it some time back.

good luck!
