Re: problems w/ hood release

have someone pull the release handle while you beat on the hood ever so gently (harder if nessesary) front and center.
sounds like the latch is hanging, quite common . after you get it open lube it up.

Re: problems w/ hood release

I had the same problem with my previous astro. I finally got it open with someone pulling on the hood release inside the van and me playing with the hood until it unlatched. I learned that you need to lubricate that release at least once a month with a good quality spray lubricant. WD40 doesn't stay on long enough. I use a marine lubricant by Wynns and have had good luck.

Re: problems w/ hood release

WD-40 is probably one of the most misused products ever. It was originally developed as a rust preventive coating (Water Displacement, formula 40) and not a lubricant or penetrating oil. Vehicle hinges, latches, and linkages are supposed to be lubricated with clean engine oil. Spray grease is an aaceptable alternative.

FWIF, lock cylinders are to be lubricated with dry graphite powder only, no liquids.

Latch and lock linkages, seat adjusters, steering column bearings, power mirror pivots, HVAC dampers and cables, and most other interior parts are to be lubricated with a white lithium grease (like LubriPplate 107).

Body seals, window channels and guides, and weatherstrips are to be treated with pure silicone oil or a layer of clear silicone grease worked in by hand, not Armor-All or other plastic/vinyl treatment sprays.

It's amazing what you can find in the factory service manuals if you just read them. There's a lot of cool stuff in them!
