96' cargo van... a/c problems

I just bought this cargo can. I believe it is in good condition. I would say its a little rough. i need to also find what are the commons problems on this van and if they are other websites for this van

After doing some searching I have found what the problem is. Now i need some attacking this problem. I have a 96' 161k cargo van and the doors are only opening to the defrost vents. I have visually inpected the lines but i need a diagram or such for a better inspection.

thanks guys for help

Re: 96' cargo van... a/c problems

That is typical of a lack of vacuum to the HVAC damper controls. The vaccum is taken from the engine on the left (driver's) side of the intake, routes across the front of the engine in a hard nylon line, then transitions to a rubber vacuum hose, "T" fitting and check valve. One line of the "T" routes to a vacuum reservoir - A 5" diameter plastic ball mounted on the RH frame rail below the AC evaporator core case. The other line routes into the passenger compartment to the HVAC controls.

Common failures are cracking of the hard nylon vacuum line running across the top if the intake, cracks or holes in the vacuum reservoir/sphere or the attachment line, and failures of the "T" fitting and/or check valve in the vacuum tubing system.

This is obviously not an Astro, but this is what the vacuum reservoir looks like:

This is where you can usually find the vacuum hose connections and "T" fitting/check valve:
