Mystery coolant leak

99 Blazer 4.3 automatic tranny.

The water is not leaking from the front or top part of the engine.
I checked the water hoses that go through the top of the firewall and they are dry.

When I put water in the radiator the water is dripping out immediately down across the bell housing on the transmission.

I crawled under the car but I can not find the source of the leak.

Does anyone know what could be leaking back there?

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Re: Mystery coolant leak

Probably on top on the lower intake between the intake and the valve cover and then depending on parking angle runs down. Also there is a gasket on the rear of the intake also that can leak back by the distributer. Lower intake always goes by 100k miles.

I would agree with muddog on the lower intake, but if for some reason it's not that, then you are looking at a freeze plug...

I just wish this was designed so you could actually see back there.

Re: Mystery coolant leak UPDATE

Well it was the intake that was leaking.

I removed the A/C compressor and found a BIG leak on the right side of the intake.

garage wanted 500 bucks to do it so I did it myself for $45 (gasket kit)

Good call and thanks again!
