Pontiac GTO vs. Honda S2000

well, I do believe it is time to retire the gs-r and i've had my eyes on a few cars but none stand out as much to me as the GTO and the S2000. Before anyone says anything I do realize they are very very different vehicles, but I was hoping to get some opinions on things besides the driving dynamics of both which as I said are completely different.

Other than the driving dynamics they both have quite a few characteristics I am looking for.

~mid 20k price
~RWD
~Sporty
~not too concerned with actual numbers at this time but I want it to feel fast
~ good handling
~eye pleasing (to me)

Now pros and cons of each to me.

S2000- Drop top (pro), small tight well put together vehicle (pro), 2 seats (con). Kind of impractical (con)

GTO- Fast (pro), heavy as sin (con), Small trunk space for size of car (con), Very very roomy comfortable interior (pro), less gas mileage than honda (con), Very sexy look I feel (pro), Slightly more practical than the s2000 (pro)

Both of these would be a daily for a year or so maybe and I wouldn't plan on driving either into the ground. I want something that is going to be garaged and cared for and taken out for a spin every couple of days and kept for a long long time.

I am 23, clean driving record etc. Insurance cost for each of these would be about 1400 a year for basic coverage for me. I realize that I'll have to get a better policy with collision etc when I finance. But I just got a quote for basic to get an idea.

Like I said I'm 23, I graduated college about a year ago, I am currently making about 50,000 a year and may be bumped up to 60 or more in a few months. I have no ties etc. no mortgage so I feel that now is the time to buy a car like this.

So anyway any insight into this from owners etc. or anyone with lemme know.

PS i'm looking at slightly used not new. And the 6.0 gto not 5.7.

Re: Pontiac GTO vs. Honda S2000

I voted S2K because its such a joy to drive, at least according the the leading auto magazines. While the S2K is not nearly as practical as the GTO, it does have better handling and all around more fun... so if u can put up with the two seats, I would definatly go with the S2000, just think... 7500 RPM...

Re: Pontiac GTO vs. Honda S2000

I'm a big fan of the S2k as a sports car, but as a daily driver you might be happier with the space the GTO offers.

You also mentioned that you want the car to "feel" fast. The GTO has a big edge on the S2k if that is what you want. 400lb-ft kinda blows the Honda away.

Re: Pontiac GTO vs. Honda S2000

although i like both cars im gonna go with the s2k. its more sporty and fun to drive where as the gto is like a fast almost family kinda car. the s2k will also get better mileage and is more reliable.

I just drove the GTO a couple days ago and I don't see anyway it would disappoint you. I would take it any day over the s2000

Re: Pontiac GTO vs. Honda S2000

don't like S2K's, they feel very slow when you drive them, and i don't like reving to 4K just so it can move out of its own way. GTO for the win by a mile.

What you want is practicality and muscle has always been there for people in the same situation. GTO

I would go w/ the GTO if you want a practical car, and its got the power to back up that weight.

I would go with the S2000, I love the way they drive and I probably would have bought one a few months ago if I had fit better...

Re: Pontiac GTO vs. Honda S2000

I'm usually apt to go for the small, Japanese sports cars, but the S2000's lack of torque and lack of space would probably get on my nerves pretty fast. I'll vote GTO.

Re: Pontiac GTO vs. Honda S2000

Its really a choice between a Butch Ausie slappa, or a tight young Japanese girl.

Both are lots of fun to play with, but give a very different ride.

I voted GTO. I've test drove both vehicles, and personally I like the feel of the Pontiac better. The S2K was wayy cool though!

Excuse me????

1) I can't believe you compared a GTO to a butch Aussie slappa...Dude come on! I mean I guess that's a fair comparison in terms of weight...but thats just not right.... and a young Japanese Girl... young = 18+ right, or else I suddenly feel like a dirty old man

2) You'd honestly tell me you'd take a Butch Aussie over a tight young Japanese girl?? HONESTLY?!?!?!

and my vote is for the GTO...Powerful, practical, tons of fun to drive, and your going to get a very good price for that...You will not be disappointed with the GTO...
