I just got the van back from my son. I tried to find out why there was no dome light. The fuse for the domelight/horn etc 30 AMP seems to have been missing for a while now. I put in a new fuse and it immediately burnt out on contact. So no horn or dome lights.
Can someone point me in the right direction to check it out? Thanks.

Re: 89 Astro - elec short
IIRC, that fuse also protect the wiring for the cigar lighter(s). You might be surprised at what kinds of things can find their way into a lighter socket.

Re: 89 Astro - elec short
This is so true, Dodge had many cars in the 80's with the lighter in the center console, non'smokers especialy would remove the lighter and anything and everything would end up in there.
On dodge's the digital dash was on the same circut. I was always swamped with work in the elec. tech dept. |

Re: 89 Astro - elec short
so you would say to disconnect the lighter and put in a new fuse to see if it stays? I looked at the lighter and it seems ok. I will try it and let you know. Thanks.

Re: 89 Astro - elec short
Many times i put a lamp in place of a fuse for trouble-shooting. The lamp glows brightly until you disconnect the short.
The lamp limits current, so you have time to check. |
