Electrical Problems 1998 SC1 single cam

Hi, First Time post hopefully someone can help. Below is the sequence of events, i'm guessing either Altinator or a cable.

- Car stalled after putting the car in gear and releasing hand brake (its a standard)

- Tried to start the car and there was nothing, did not turn over, no interior lights nothing

- Got a boost and the car would start but as soon as the cables were taken off it stalled again

- Charged the battery with a charger and everything was fine for a couple of days, got the car checked at a garage and they hooked it up to a machine and said the altinator was fine and it was probably the battery.

- Got the battery changed (it was only 6 months old) and put in the new one

- Everything was good for a few days then after starting my car the Speedometer and RPM guage (while driving) flickerd down to zero and then back to where they should be, the check engine light was on and the hand brake and air bag light would come on perioically.

- I got the car home and shut it off, tried to turn it on again and nothing. Now when the car is just sitting there (not turned on and no key in the ignition) the lights on the radio flicker and make a slight clicking noise, if I set the interior light switch to off the radio light stops flickering.

Any ideas?

Re: Electrical Problems 1998 SC1 single cam

you say your check engine light is on did you get he code off of it?

this may seem werid but how tight is your sepertain belt someone on here has a bad tenior and it couldn't power all the accessorys becuase of it.

but if it is not that then it is your altternator becuase that would explain why your batterys are going so quick.

possiblitys in my option

1. alternator - you can test this with a cheap voltmeter
2. cables- check the positive cable, i have seen a leaking AC Delco battery(stock equiptment) distory battery cable and act like dead alternators before
3. some crazy problem with the wiring harness
