Which year and which model...
Just thought I'd ask you Wrangler owners, if you could do it all over again... which year and which model Wrangler would you purchase??? I am sure there's one year, with one model that's been praised and known to be durable... anything would help since I am in search for a Wrangler. I am looking for something to do some traveling in, no off-roading or anything like it. Just something to cruise around in the cities and take road trips with. Thanks...

Roadtrip ... Wrangler. They are all going to ride like a Jeep. I dont even associate the word comfy with Jeep although I drive mine everyday. I love my Jeep!! I have a 2006 Wrangler.

If you are not planning on doing any offroading and you are planning on doing roadtrips you probably dont need or want a Wrangler.

If I had to do it again??? Is irrelevant because my uses are different from yours, I off road mine. Any Wrangler from 97 to 06 (TJ). There are a few minor changes between 97 & 06, interior, top, ignition and transmission and engine changes but none stand out as more or less reliable. The only difference between models (Sahara, Sport, SE, X, Willys, etc) is the option/standard equipment list, so just shop for the options you want. Dont bother looking at a Rubicon because if you arent off roading, it would be a waste of your money. Probably your biggest choice will be whether to get a 4 or 6 cyl. model. For around town driving, a 4 cyl will be fine but once its loaded down for a roadtrip on the highway, it will stay up with traffic but will lack passing power. Your MPG wont be much better with the 4 but the purchase price will be. You will also have to choose between soft and hard top, auto or manual, glass or plastic, thats all personal preference. |

Re: Which year and which model...
I am deffinitely looking into the late 90 models and early 2000's... I thought the SUV might be well on the road when I do my traveling... the vehicle will deffinitely be my daily driver in the winter and will see some places in the summer... besides, I have a Del Sol to cruise around in the summer... that saves me tons of gas money... I don't so much mind the gas outcome, but I deffinitely want something reliable while I am traveling... I've come across a few late 90's Wranglers Sport edition with less than 80K selling for 9/10 k's... does that sound like a good deal? ill be sure to try and talk my way down, but I am trying not to spend anything more than 10k... the hard and soft doesn't really matter to me, I am sure they're adjustable one way or the other, I'd just like to take it off and feel the breeze while I am on the road... thanks for the advice everyone... I'll be sure to keep everyone posted...

Your better off desiding what top you want before you get it. Its true that the hardtop can be removed but its not something you would want to do every day. You can probably find one with the duel top option. Most people I know that got this option end up not bothering to put their hardtop back on once its off. If you want top down, then get a soft top and be done with it. |

The softtop is nice. I can have mine on and off within a few mins without having to have a winch or a ladder.
