Unhappy I NEED HELP ANYONE PLEASE....1989 sputtering rattling hesitates is a manual

The story begins driving in traffic. it starts backfiring, sputtering, and shooting sparks and flames. So me and my dad put in new spark plugs and a new distributer cap, rotor. After driving it around there was still a heavy rattling and would hesitate when i accelerated every 5 seconds... the lights would flicker... thats basically it. But you mechanics prove me wrong and give me you best opinion. PLEASE PLEASE. I want my baby to live!! thanks so much... Please...

Where do the sparks and flames come from?

Where is the rattling coming from?

What engine do you have, and how many miles?

Have you replaced the plug wires?

How long since you replaced the air filter?

Sounds like you should check the alternator and battery because of the lights flickering.
