Ebay has cars 1/2 the price of classifieds, what gives?

That's the opeining bid for the auction, and lots of times they seller has set a "reserve," a minimum price below which he will not sell the car.

Watch a couple of auctions and see what happens with the price, especially near the end of the auction.

If you plan on bidding for a car on ebay, research the process and pitfalls carefully before hand! Lots of people get burned.

Also be very wary of scammers. Many times htey steal pics and vin numbers from Autotrader adds for hard to find cars, like Supras, rx7s, 3000gts. And they will hi-jack an account with good feedback and then list one of these cars for ridiculously low prices. They will usually also have something in there that says "my ebay email address doesn't work, please email any questions to me directly at _______" This is so ebay has no copies of any transpondences between the two of you. Usually, that statement isn't typed out, but imported as a graphic, so that the ebay fraud dept.'s text-search feature doesn't pick it up.

Always be very wary of any car you cannot see or drive before buying. I wouldn't do it.
