1986 2.8L 4X4 starting problems
Ok, I have a 1986 2.8L automatic 4X4 that I recently purchased and it wont start after not running for about 2 hours. If I let it sit overnight there is no way It will start in the morning, it sounds like its turning over but it never does, its not a problem with the starter or battery, as when I pour a little bit of fuel in that thing in the air filter housing (sorry, brain cramp) it turns over instantly. I have been told that it could be dirty fuel filters, but I decided to sign up and get your guys opinions. Please help, its not a big duel to pop the hood and use a little bit of gas to get it going but I want it to run perfectly

Re: 1986 2.8L 4X4 starting problems
On that year , I assume it carb not FI , so first I would check the fuel pump (located on the lower front of the engine) . The fuel may be draining back down thru the diaphram when the engine is off and the starter does not spin the engine fast enough to recover the loss. When you get it cranked , the higher pump speed is adequate to keep the carb fed . Hope this helps. Rob

Re: 1986 2.8L 4X4 starting problems
actually it is fuel injected, and the fuel pump was replaced about 1 month ago to see if it would help, and it didnt make that much of a difference. I was just thinking, could it possibly be the cold start injector?
