1992 Explorer Trans. leak. Sometimes?

I have a 1992 Explorer XLT. Had the trans re-built a little over a year ago. The warranty ran out about 5 months ago. Now when i drive it, its ok for about an hour. After that, it starts dripping transmission fluid. If i drive it longer, the fluid starts pouring out. Yesterday i went through 6 quarts of fluid in about a 20 minutes. This morning, it didnt drip a drop. Anyone know what this might be?

Something is getting hot in the trans cuasing the fluid to expand and pump out. Too bad the warranty went out.

Can you isolate where the leak is coming from? It is possible the vent on top of trans is plugged causing the heat to push fluid out.

Its coming from between the engine and trans. Seems like its being pushed through the seal. Also, i just found out that it only seems to do it while driving in the city. Just took about a 2 hour drive on the highway, and it still isnt leaking.

If it is leaking between the engine and trans, it is either the pump seal or the torque converter seal. If it is either of those, the trans needs to be removed to replace.

If the seal was bad, wouldnt it leak all the time? Because i can sometimes go 2 weeks without leaking a drop. I hate to go through the trans removal, and re-installation to change a seal, and have it still leak.

Look around the dipstick area to see if fluid is leaking there and running over to the bell housing area.
