Speaker Sizes

I recently bought an 89 240sx and i just installed my deck today (alpine 9845). I am soon going to install aftermarket speakers in it and i was unsure of the sizes. Can anyone help me on the sizes of the speakers in the front and back of the car. Also are there speakers or a place to put speakers in the dash? thank you...

Re: Speaker Sizes

i use infinitys in the front (4" component) and pioneer (5 1/4) in the back.

i have a 91 fastback and there isnt anywhere to put them in the dash... i just have mine in the stock door spots... why do you want them in the dash? my only guess would be cutting a hole for them? i just cant imagine it would look good..

Re: Speaker Sizes

Yeah I think the 4x6s in the front are too small.
I believe people put 6x9s in there, theres guides for that floating around somewhere

theres a kit on ebay for like 10 bucks that allows direct bolt in of 6.5" speakers in the door panels for any s13.

I looked in the door panels and the hole is cirlce shaped so i dont think they are 4x6's (probably an aftermarket peice). also do you think that i could fit 5x7's in the 4x6 spot in the back?

dude, have you tried? before asking why dont you experiment a little bit? thats what i did... my pioneers were too big to fit in the stock rear holes so i made a fiberglass mold on each side to fit them. if you have fiberglass skills, use them. if you dont, learn them.

or, take off the plastic piece over the rear speakers (not just the speaker cover, the whole panel) then take out the metal brackets underneath. use a cutting wheel and try and make the hole in the metal bracket bigger to fit the larger speakers and use a dremel to make sure they clear the plastic panel that sits on top. just experiment a bit, go to the junkyard and pic up a pair of the rear speaker panels for $20 if youre unsure of how its going to come out. just my

Re: Speaker Sizes

oh yea and another option if you have a hatch..

in the trunk there is a flat cardboard piece that lifts up when the hatch is opened, and covers the trunk when closed. a friend of mine cut holes in the panel and put his speakers right in there. he ran the wires along the underside of the panel so not much (if any) wiring is seen. just another suggestion if you have a hatch.

Re: Speaker Sizes

but the speakers wont be very loud and wont have bass unless you make baffles for them as well, or more like small enclosures
