2.7l Thought they were lying

I've seen companies sell kits on the Internet to swap a 3.2 or 3.5 into a 2.7l Intrepid. They said that 2.7l engines are in short supply b/c they self destruct so often. They said 2.7l junk yard engines go for about $2000-$2500 and 3.2/3.5 much less. They weren't kidding, checked a local yard and they want $2500 for a 2000 2.7l with 104K miles. A 2000 3.2l in the same yard was $850 and it only had 69K on it, go figure.

i guess ppl are dying for the 2.7L its a matter of supply and demand LOL....

Ive never heard of anything swapping a 3.5 for a 2.7L tho so they will surely have a hard time getting rid of that 2.7L unless a sebring owner comes along. Apparently it was only an issue with teh intrepid. The sebrings have been running 2.7s in every model with no problems. The trep is just too heavy. Heck mine is slow with the 3.5HO.

Im just gonna get a g35 after my sxt, same engine capacity but well tuned and faster LOL.... Besides 4 seats are more than enough for one driver.

Get that 2.7 rebuilt.. Grind the crank, size the rods and use good bearings. I've rebuilt too many to count now, and not one has come back. I rebuilt one with 20,000 miles!! Every one of them had spun bearings.....

The crank is automatically junk and the rod is junk too.The 2.7s eat crankshafts right up.You can get the rod w/piston from the dealer only,same with rest of the 2.7 parts.Everyone that I have seen,the crankshaft is junk and thrown away,under specs.I have done two 2.7 to 3.2/3.5 conversions with a donor car and this is the easier way to do instead of the kit.Jasper does rebuild the 2.7 WITH updated parts.Part of the warrenty is to change the oil every 3,000 miles and keep the reciept for the oil changes,put in Mobil 1 synthetic oil in.The 2.7 in the sebrings are junk too.I put in a timing chain in one so far,luckily it did not bend the valves.
