Re: intake/exhaust

Or just buy the AEM cone filter (which is a K&N filter), & make the tube out of something else. It's only the quality of the filter that matters, the intake piping is just there to transfer the air. Those 'make your own' intake kits at autozone will work for the piping, you just have to be a little more creative with it.

Keep in mind too, that you probably have to get your exhaust installed professionally. Around a $50 to $70 labor job depending where you go. $350 is kinda low for I&E together though, anything less probably won't be of good quality.

Re: intake/exhaust

you said catback exhaust and muffler like it's the same thing. A cat back is basically a whole new exhaust minus changing the catalytic converter and exhaust manifold. If you just want a new muffler that's just the very end of the exhaust system. You shuld be able to find a used catback system for less than $350. If you just want to change the muffler then it'll be a lot less $$$ especially if your friend will weld it up for free.

Re: intake/exhaust

Stay with the stock muffler. They sound the best in my opinion.

Re: intake/exhaust

Go with a good aftermarket CAI(cold air intake). The piping is more than just a way to get the air from the filter to the throttle body. Good CAI's have pre-drilled holes for for stock sensors and places to attach vaccum lines. If you don't reattach any of these, you are going to set off the check engine light as well as mess up your fuel/air ratio and who knows what else. I suggest going with the AEM CAI. They have the features I mentioned above and are fairly easy to install. I installed mine last year and the car has run perfect with no "check engine" light coming on. So I figure I must have installed it right. As for exhaust, on your budget you can't get much. The CAI will take a good portion of that money depending on where you get it. I suggest checking out ebay first. I can't remember what suggested retail is on the AEM CAI, but I would think you could save some $$ my shopping around. The best aftermarket exhaust in my opinion is DC Sports. But you won't be able to buy that on this budget. I would just get the CAI and nothing else. Wait and some up some cash and go for the DC Sports full exhaust, including headers. That will surely give you some HP gains. What good is a loud muffler if you don't have anything to back it up? You wanted to know what people suggested, so there is mine. Take it for what it's worth. By the way, here is the link to AEM and DC Sports so you can check out their stuff.
