Post WHY are you tailgaiting me in traffic?!?

Ok, so I'm coming home from work today on the interstate, it's about 4:30 so traffic is starting to get a bit heavy, and about halfway home is starts crawling at about 5 mph.

So naturally, since have nowhere to go I keep it slow, keeping about 2 car lengths ahead of me in order to coast to a stop instead of wasting precious $3.22/gal fuel by acellerating and braking hard constantly. But the guy behind me in a pickup had a different agenda, instead of keeping his distance, he kept about 2 inches away from my rear bumper THE WHOLE TIME, I tried to get him to back off by tapping my brakelights early (I even put my reverse lights on when we were stopped) and he STILL stays a mere 1-2 inches from my bumper. All this, and I was in the RIGHT LANE!!!

This isn't the first time I've seen this happen, I drive on the x-way every day to and from work and I see too many people tailgaiting others (and me). Granted, some people are going too slow for the road (like going under 65 in the 2 left lanes and not moving over), but other times it's all the tailgaiters fault. I've been in an accident before (my friend was driving, I was the passenger) in which it most likely would have been avioded if they were following at a reasonable distance, so I know first hand how dangerous it really is.

So please, leaving the extra 10 feet of road in front of your car isn't going to make you get anywhere slower. Following too close just pisses off the people ahead of you and could very well mark the end of you or your car.

That's all, I'm out.

Re: WHY are you tailgaiting me in traffic?!?

I'm one of those people who not tailgate as close as that guy, but make my presence known in traffic. I'm all for leaving a few car lengths between you and the car in front of you. It's a smart thing to do.

It's the people who leave 7-20 car lenghts that piss me off I don't understand how it's so hard for these people to coast within a 1-2 car length spread. THEY are part of the problem of slow congestion. Don't even get me started on the merging of the on-ramp.

people need to learn to just cailm down in traffic. you're not going anywhere and there's nothing you can do about it. just accept it, turn on some good music and just chill out for a while.

...i hope your kidding. Yes it was a joke. Its one of my biggest pet peeves of driving. Bugs the shit out of me when people try to merge onto the freeway where the speed limit is 70, meanwhile they are going 30 trying to merge.

Re: WHY are you tailgaiting me in traffic?!?

I am most likely one of the most laid back persons around untill I start to drive. It's like Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hide*spelling* I too am alot like TexasF355F1 I can't stand it when people move over into the slower lanes when they are going under or going the speed limit. There are times when I and others are in a hurry. When your stuck behind someone thats not in a hurry just taking their time drives me up the wall. I don't tailgate except when I'm in a hurry and I don't get that close to the other car.

I hate people that ride on my ass. Hell, I dont even like riding on other peoples ass. Its annoying. Makes me want to tap my brakes just to get them a ticket for following to close and watch his insurance go up.

Oh, as far as merging, I've actually seen a guy sitting on the ramp with his signal on waiting for somebody to let him in.

What about people with their turn signal on at a red light to turn left at an empty intersection? That chaps my hide too.

Re: WHY are you tailgaiting me in traffic?!?

I generally try to make the rest of someone's driving experience a living hell after they do stupid shit like tailgate me in traffic or cut me off. On interstate, I get up to a semi and drive just outside it's blindspot in the passing lane and sit there for about 10-12 miles, then creep up along the side ever so slowly and let the douchebag behind me around.

That doesn't matter though. All that matters is now. Here. And what is here? Why, it is only myself and this road. I've been walking a while, and I've come to find that no matter how much I try to stray from this direct path, I always find myself back on it. I can't say this is by way of my own fault, because it is not. I've tried to create a road of my own, only to find that all roads I choose to make, lead me to the one that is already made. Alarming? Maybe not so much. Deterring? Never.

I love these cloudy days. Have I mentioned that? Wonder has always been something my mind has enjoyed and to be in a constant state of it is wonderful. My bones and flesh soak in every drop of it, until I can take no more. And then? And then I take more still. Surely you know of what I speak.

I'm sorry, but I must leave you now. My wondering mind is getting the best of me and uncertainty beckons me.

Until we meet again...

Re: WHY are you tailgaiting me in traffic?!?

that may be true, but it certainly makes me feel better and allows me to be less pissed about it in the end .
