cannot figure it out

i have a 91 ninety-eight and i cannot figure out why it is lacking power when i come to a complete stop then go again. i believed it would be fixed when i got a tune-up but it hasnt gone away yet. its just completely lacking power from a stopping point. can anyone help? i also check the diagnostics and its tellin me code 36 and 26. i found 26 but i cannot find 36 and if anyone knows that will it help the problem?

Re: cannot figure it out

Code 36 is the B solenoid in the trans, sounds like it is stuck in 3rd, this also can cause quad driver code 26, have a trans tech scan for solenoid functions. BTW, welcome to AF.

Re: cannot figure it out

At the least sounds like the B solenoid is bad or shorted wiring to it, could spend 400-600 here, depends on your local shops.

Trans side cover must come off to access the valve body, axle has to come out, some cars the subframe must be lowered to get the cover off. BTW, check the connector on the trans for corrosion or loose fit first.

Re: cannot figure it out

where could i find that connecter? i havnt really dealt with a transmission before, let alone a fwd transmission. and i dunno if this has anything to do with it but it started after we were tampering with the wiring to the a/c (trying to install a switch) the connecter sounds more like what it is, but where is it so i can check it?

Re: cannot figure it out

i dont know if its stuck in third now because i can shift down to first manually and it acts the same way; whole lot of engine, not a lot of power. i also checked the transmission fluid and it needed a pint or two. i'm thinking its a fuel filter problem, but it shifting down to 2nd and first and acting the same way doesnt really help, and i know its shifting because i can feel it shifting. anything else to check?

Do you see what is involved here, you need a lift, a jack to lower the trans and subframe, as I said the axle has to come out, the 3rd gear solenoid can be purchased at any trans shop or dealer.
