Weird smell

I was driving around my civic a few days ago and i noticed a weird smell in the cabin... the closest thing i can compare it to is burnt sugar. So i went out and popped the hood and it smelled the same. the day before i noticed the smell, i polished and waxed my car, and i know sometimes when i use quick detailer on my hood and the paint gets hot it smells weird, but this smell wasnt the same.... i used mothers detailer this time though. Does anyone know what could be causing this? or if i should be worried about it? My car doesnt have any mods on it. any imput is greatly appreciated.

Have you checked your coolant level latly...?

Might be coolant leaking down on to the b-pipe, or someplace else that gets hot enough to evaporate it, causing the smell...

Alright i checked the coolant level and it was a little bit below the min. I guess im going to fill it up tommorow... should this be something to be concerned about? I never see any fluid on the garage floor, and my engine doesnt overheat, so could this just be from the coolant evaporating?

This really needs to be checked into ASAP... Loosing enough coolant, could end up costing you a warped head, and blown head gasket, from overheating. Leaks just tend to get worse over time. They start out as pin holes, then progess into slits.... hehehe

When was the last time the rad cap was re-placed...? Look around the top and sides of the filler tube hole, and see if there is any residue on it. Mostly looks like a whitish powder, with maybe some green mixed in sometimes. That would also give off enough oder, for you to smell.

Anyway, the coolant could also be dripping or spaying, onto something hot enough too burn it. Sooo, thats why your not seeing any on the floor, ect...

Which makes it that much harder to find. Might start looking in the area of whats "above" and to the "sides" of the exhaust pipe, that could drip down from around the area of the "back" of the head. It's the one that runs "under" the middle of the car. Probably have to take a mirror and flash light to look around back there. Also, look for any kind of residue too.

Try tighting up as many hose clamps, as you can get too. May have to loosen or move stuff out the way, in order to get to them tho.

Or, take it to a radiator shop, and have them find it... hehehe
