rear end
well on the way bck from Michigan my rear end started howling like a gut shot panther. I can't believe it 98 CV with only 60000 miles. I picked up another rear end for $255.00 and I'll put it in. Then I am going to sell it. Great car but my wife is tired of it. Anybody else had rear end problems? Interested in a white crown vic?

Re: rear end
My 96 LX has a barely audible whirr-whirr sound in the back when cold or when bearing left about 25 mph. I rotated tires so that should not be the cause. I also replaced the fluid with the same kind in the manual, little or no change. 122000 miles.

Re: rear end
My grandfather actually had the same problem, but his car had 160,000 miles on it. I would guess your car was abused pretty badly when it was in service.

Re: rear end
I had mine done last year on my 98. The damn pinion bearing seems to be a regular problem on the Vics. I would keep the car. Mine pretty much lasted to 200,000 and the only reason is my transmission is on its way out and I do not want to drop $1500 for a new one but I will get another vic. They are a durable car.

Re: rear end
crown vics usually have axle bearings that go out and usually by time the officer hears the noise and it gets to us they need axles also.
