Question supercharger question

ok, i have a 97 max, still stock everything pretty much. i have 95500 miles on my car, is the mileage too high to add a supercharger onto? will the supercharger add more wear and tear to my engine? high maintinence? i want to kno everything i can find out about these before i look into puttin 4000 into it. oh, and does the SC make ur car fail inspection? get in deep shit if cops find? anything else bout that would help too

From my research yes it is too late to add a supercharger to your Max with 95k + miles due to the fact that the SC will add extra wear to your engine and with higher mileage vehicles it really is not worth the risk. As for the second question you will pass inspections with a SC recommended for your engine.

Anything to add more power to your car will produce more wear but there are tons of people that still do it. I remember hearing about someone putting a SC on a max that had 200,000+ miles on it so it's all up to you. My guess is if you put a SC on with no mods to your pulley and having a manual tranny and not driving it too hard you could probably get 100K more miles out of your engine. Assuming you take really really really good car of your car. If you have and auto tranny then that will give out before your engine does and if you miss oil changes by thousands of miles then there will be more wear. Its all up to you though, weigh the good and the bad before you do something like that, liek you said

Simple way to find out. Do a compression test. If all the numbers look good, then go for it. If you have low compression or if the numbers vary by over 15psi per cylinder, then look into getting a new engine first.

Buy a compression tester for about $20. Then, unscrew a sparkplug from a cyliner. Plug it in. Turn the engine over a few times (pretend to start the car). REcord the psi recorded. Repeat for all the cylinders.

PS, a turbo and supercharger will both cause about equal amounts of wear and tear.

Usually, with a supercharger, you mainly have to be worried about sealers. That is, the first things to go would be piston rings, head gaskets, etc. So, you might just install the supercharger, then, if something goes wrong, fix it. If all is ok, you save yourself some money.

When the piston rings go bad, you will start burning excessive oil, and you will also loose a lot of power. Eventually, this could lead to oil starvation, or you could loose a whole cylinder due to the compression failure. You can't get a good used engine with low miles for around $500-800, which really isn't much to spend when you are talking about $4k for the S/C.
