Friend Contemplating a Ion

Hello,
My friend is contemplating getting a Saturn Ion. Is there any years, issues, models, motors, that she should stay away from? Any other info we should know before she buys something? She is looking for a manual. Anyone have any input as to how these cars do in the snow (live in Minnesota). I'm sure a lot of this has been covered by a lot of people, but to dig for all this information would take longer than anyones polite response of "Yes, look for this..." or "No problems yet..." and all that.
Thank you for any information.

Re: Friend Contemplating a Ion

Hey
Stay away from 03, and 04 models, 03 mostly since they had the most troubles. 03 was the first year the ion came out and they had a lot of problems. Also stay away from the VTi variable transmission, tons of problems with them, I think they stopped making that tranny in 04, but other then that the ion is a great car
