Tensioner Question

Below is a price quote for OEM parts:

Timing Belt (#144) 8-97136-321-0 $44.14
Water Pump 8-97167-554-0 $117.68
Hyd Tensioner (#229) 8-97328-512-0 $58.35
Tension Roller (#135) 8-97136-256-0 $216.08
Idler Pulley (#123) 8-97146-877-0 $76.14
Camshaft Seals (#239) 8-94389-593-1 $7.32 each
Front Crank Seal (#35) 8-97023-373-0 $8.62
Rear Crank Seal (#175) 8-94381-233-0 $27.35

What is a hydraulic tensioner? I thought the tensioner roller would be about $90. Are those the only seals I need? Is this a pretty complete parts list for the timing belt ordeal?

Re: Tensioner Question

I paid more than $70 for my OEM tensioner from St. Charles. How about a new crank bolt? I didn't change mine, but I wish I had. I still don't know if it's a stretch bolt or not...

Re: Tensioner Question

A hydraulic tensioner is the thing that actually pushes the tensioner pulley against the belt. This is the main thing that fails. It's highly unlikey you will need to replace the idler pulley or tensioner pulley and you don't need the rear crank seal unless you're pulling the motor. Can't get to it otherwise.

Check out their ad on ebay.

They are a legit dealership in Utah. I believe they provide free shipping. Their prices are actually lower than all 3 Isuzu dealerships near me. I might put in an order in a few days.

Thanks for the info. So when most dealerships quote the price for a tensioner I assume the hydraulic is the one they are talking about? IF that's the case, why dont timing belt kits include the hydraulic tensioner and not just the roller/bracket? BUT why in the world is the tension roller over $200???

When most ppl talk about replacing the tensioner they aren't very specific.

Re: Tensioner Question

That price for the tensioner roller is crazy high, if you ask me.

Sorry for the confusion. When I think tensioner, I think only of the hydraulic thingy. The roller is just a pulley. If you're letting everything in there go for 100K, you'd better replace it all.

In October, I paid $144 for the Daypro kit from Advance, including the roller, but not the tensioner, and $45for the belt.
