Angry 96 O2 sensor wire colors?

ok... I have 96 Corsica with the 3100 sfi... I replaced the O2 sensor after the cat. I got a universal one so i had to wire it myself.... first i tried it the way the guy at checker told me... and that didnt work... next i tried the way the actual instruction said two... and after clearing the codes... the ses light is still on and says #2 O2 bad.... I have no clue what is going on... other then maybe it is wired wrong.

My car ahs 2 brown wires a purple w/white strip, and a tan w/ white stripe.... the o2 ensor has to whites and a grey and a black.... which colors go with which???

right now i have the 2 whites going to the 2 browns, the black to the purple and the grey to the tan... I have also tried the grey and black to the brown and a white to the purple and a white to the tan...which is what the parts guy told us to do...

both ways... the ses light comes back on...even after i clear it... if its not the wires..any other idea of what they could be???

thanks a bunch!!!

I am not familiar with your color codes but I will tell you the code will stay there after it is fixed until you get a scan tool to clear it. I am assuming of course you don't have one that does this. If so my mistake. Cars made after 94 usually won't clear without a special tool, not like the old OBDI cars where you could unhook battery etc. to clear them out.
