Question Trunk Release...err not

Hello All,

I just purchased a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 Convertible and I absolutely love it! However, I have found a few problems with it that I would like to correct. My main gripe about it is that it has no remote trunk release. I have checked in the owners manual and it says that (if equipped) it should be on floor between the drivers side seat and the door. I have a few friends that have cavaliers and I know where it is in their cars. In my girlfriends 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, it is inside the glove box. I looked there too just to be sure and its not there either. I have searched the car high and low and cannot find a trunk release anywhere. Now I need to know two things. One: is GM playin a trick on me and hiding the damn thing? Or did they actually make them without a trunk release? Now for the second thing...I have seen the non-convertible models and they do not have the gas shocks in the trunk. My car has the gas shocks in the trunk and it appears to have a silenoid as it would have, had it come with a keyless entry remote with trunk release. However that remote is long gone by now. What I want to know is can I run some wires to a push button switch to activate the silenoid and thus give me a trunk release? If not...what would I have to do to get another keyless entry remote? I assume calling the dealer would be one option, but as you all know thats usually the last option Any input would be great! Thanks!

Re: Trunk Release...err not

The trunk release solenoid, if you have it, is actually a motor unit and, yes, it can be wired to a 12 VDC source (positive line and ground wire back past the trunk hinges) via a pushbutton. The only thing to check on is the correct polarity to the unit, and that can be done by trial and error.
